On June 6, 1944 Allied Forces invaded the beaches of Normandy to help liberate Europe from the Nazis. Nearly a year later the greatest conflict of the modern age would end on the Western Front. This walk begins at the Museum of the Resistance in Montparnasse with the story of war from the inside. Our purpose is to make sense of how centuries of gloried history brought France to a crossroads in 1940 when the Nazis entered Paris and the government committed to placating them while numerous individual factions dedicated themselves to resist. The topic is massive and our time is brief so we do what any reasonable people would do, we present the story from beginning to end.
